Preliminary Intake form

Is ABA Right for my family?

I often see conversations or hear the questions of whether ABA is the right fit for a family or child. Some may have had less that ideal experiences, others have heard poor reviews and are hesitant and some are unfamiliar with how it works- and as an intervention it can feel daunting.

My response to this caution is just like not every doctor, speech therapist, childcare provider or teacher is the right fit for each child, the same is true for behavioral providers. We do our very best to help every family understand why we do what we do and balance our interventions with family priorities. We believe communication is key. As a team, we employ natural learning environments where children are coached in learning through play and the experience is constructive for all. Many of us on the team at Little Oaks are moms or dads ourselves and believe only in providing the same level of services that we would give to our own families.

Our Philosophy

Little Oaks ABA recognizes and respects the uniqueness of every child and family that we support. This is why our clinical interventions are skillfully tailored to meet the needs of each family member and child, by focusing on the areas of language, behavior, activities of daily living and cognition. Family participation and training is strongly encouraged as a component for programming.

Our team is comprised of clinicians with extensive experience and training in behaviorally-based foundations. Currently, we serve North Carolina, New Hampshire and Rhode Island within our home-based program and are excited for clinic services to resume in the summer in New England.

Those that we support include:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Intellectual Disabilities
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Medical Complexities
  • Sensory Processing Disorder
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD)

(Please note that funding availability may vary depending on a specific diagnosis)

Individualized Programming

Intensive ABA therapy is typically covered by health insurance when a child has a diagnosis of Autism. Our primary focus when beginning a behavior therapy program is on supporting safety awareness and decreasing tantrums as well as other challenging or dangerous behaviors, increasing social and play skills, toilet training, communication, and daily living skills. Community outings (grocery stores, parks, malls, etc) and integrated activity support (such as gymnastics or art classes) is available as described in the treatment plan.

We are able to work with you whether you want just a few hours a week of services or an intensive intervention program. A minimum of 10 hours a week is required in order to protect the integrity of the clinical programming, but we will provide a specific recommendation upon meeting your child and completing an assessment to determine program effectiveness depending on the time available in a family’s schedule.

All services are provided by Board Certified Behavior Analysts and Registered Behavior Technicians. Services are offered Monday-Friday with occasional weekend availability, throughout southeast New England.

Our services are most often funded by health insurance and eligibility is often determined after a check of individual benefit plans. Give us a call to learn more about participating providers!

Clinical programming begins with a comprehensive evaluation that determines the level of need and recommended number of hours. After the treatment plan has been reviewed with the family a schedule is determined and implementation of the plan begins.
